Empowering You to Get Well, Stay Well and Live Well!
"Because of the increasing rates of obesity, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity, we may see the first generation that will be less healthy and have a shorter life expectancy than their parents." (Former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona)
Nearly a third of today's children ages two to 19 are overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Statistics show that overweight children have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults, and are at much higher risk for heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and some cancers.
In an effort to reverse this trend and promote healthy, active lifestyles in Houston County and surrounding communities, Houston Healthcare introduces its new Healthy Living initiative, which is designed to encourage individuals and families to be active participants in improving their health and the health of their loved ones. Houston Healthcare's Healthy Living initiative offers community activities and programs, as well as health, nutrition and exercise information and tips that can be easily fit into busy schedules and that everybody can achieve--all focused on building healthy, active lifestyles.
Healthy Living doesn't require a commitment that is unrealistic. Eating healthy, being physically active, and having regular preventive health check-ups are all part of living a healthy life. It's about changing our way of thinking through education and activities that lead to enhancing our physical health--taking small steps that will lead to big rewards. Houston Healthcare is here to help you do just that!
