Balancing Work and Home
Houston Healthcare provides time away from work to eligible staff members for personal, family, community and other outside needs and obligations. At the same time, it is necessary to place reasonable limits on time away from work to ensure that each staff member's job responsibilities are properly carried out, and that all staff members are treated fairly and consistently in dealing with time away from Houston Healthcare.
To assist you with the balance of home and work, we provide a comprehensive PAL (Paid Annual Leave) and EIB (Extended Illness Benefit) leave program. Houston Healthcare also provides for other types of work absences, including workers' compensation, bereavement leave, jury duty leave, and disability insurance.
Medical Insurance Health, Dental And Pharmacy
Houston Healthcare offers two medical plan designs for your health coverage needs. Eligible employees may choose from two medical plans that will give you the freedom to see any physician or other health care professional from their Network, including specialist, without a referral.
Our dental plans cover preventive, basic, and major services, but they differ in how they pay for covered services. Under each plan, participants can visit any licensed dentist.
Houston Healthcare’s pharmacy benefits allow you to purchase Generic, Preferred Brand and Non-Preferred Brand drugs with a co-pay at any network pharmacy.
We offer a nationwide vision care plan to manage the cost of eyeglasses and contact lenses, as well as eye examinations.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Reimbursement accounts are available for current Houston Healthcare employees. Reimbursement accounts help you take advantage of tax savings on eligible health care and dependent care expenses. We offer both the Medical FSA and Dependent Care FSA (for reimbursement of day care expenses for eligible dependents) accounts.
Short/Long Term Disability
Short term disability is offered as a voluntary product during our annual open enrollment. Premiums are based on age and salary and are payroll deducted. STD will pay if you are determined disabled for 14 days up to 3 months.
Houston Healthcare provides LTD as a paid benefit for all eligible employees. Long Term Disability will pay a percentage of your basic monthly salary if you are considered to be totally disabled for a period of 120 days or longer up to the age of 65.
Houston Healthcare provides a comprehensive life insurance program, including both employer paid plans and voluntary, employee paid programs from which you can choose to participate to supplement your insurance needs.
Houston Healthcare provides tuition assistance for continued education that is approved through our tuition program or any other accredited higher educational institution.
As an employee of Houston Healthcare, you will be eligible for tuition assistance for courses pertaining to your present position or a position which will enhance your potential for advancement within Houston Healthcare. Assistance occurs after completion of 6 months of employment and employees must remain employed for three years following completion of degree.
This program exists to support and advance organization and individual performance effectiveness across Houston Healthcare. Ongoing services include computer technology workshops, work skills workshops and management development workshops. Offerings include a three-day management seminar, customized workshop offerings, team development, and performance management assessment for development.
Nearly 80 percent of disease in this country is preventable. One of the best ways to reduce claims cost, and thus, the rising cost of health care, is by practicing prevention. Houston Healthcare supports faculty, staff, and their family members in practicing prevention through a broad range of health management programs that emphasize a proactive approach to improving health and preventing disease before it happens.
All employees can receive free health screening for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, height/weight, BMI and body fat through our Healthy Houston program. Counseling is provided on the results with recommendations on ways to create a healthier lifestyle.
Weight Watcher at Work
Houston Healthcare employees can participate in weight loss meetings at work to provide convenience and support.
Walk for Wellness
All employees can participate in a walking exercise program where you set your own schedule with support and monitoring of blood pressure.
This is a free four-session course to help you quit smoking and/or using tobacco.
All employees are eligible for free classes through EduCare on such topics as hypertension, stress management, diabetes and heart healthy diet classes.
Healthy Lifestyle snacks in vending machines
Houston Healthcare provides food items in vending machines that are labeled lower in fat and carbohydrates for healthier choices.
The Employee Assistance Program is a free confidential short-term counseling and referral service for all employees and their dependents. The EAP counselors can help with personal problems which, if left unresolved, could significantly interfere with their personal life and career.
Workers’ Compensation coverage is an employer provided coverage for on the job accidents, injuries or work related medical situations.
