New da Vinci Xi Surgical Robot Arrives at Houston Healthcare

Houston Healthcare recently welcomed a new da Vinci Xi Surgical System to its robotics program in Warner Robins. With this new arrival, Houston Healthcare – Warner Robins now has a total of three da Vinci Xi Surgical Systems, and a fourth is scheduled to arrive at Houston Healthcare – Perry in the late fall.

“It is extraordinary to see general surgery continue to progress in the Houston County community,” says Patrick Narh-Martey, M.D, Chair of Surgery, Houston Healthcare. “The arrival of this third robot will enable our surgeons to continue performing advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedures right here in the community. This is a great benefit to our patients.”

The da Vinci System enhances surgical capabilities by enabling the performance of complex surgeries through tiny surgical openings. Guided by magnified, high-definition images, the surgeon controls small robotic arms that can bend and rotate in ways the human arms cannot, providing greater dexterity, control, precision, and vision for better surgical outcomes. Potential patient benefits compared to open surgery include less pain after surgery, less blood loss, lower risk for infection, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times.

Houston Healthcare physicians have performed more than 3,000 robotic surgeries with assistance of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System since the first da Vinci robot arrived at Houston Healthcare in November 2019. Surgeons use the da Vinci Xi System for general, gynecological, and bariatric surgeries at the facility.

“We are committed to being a leader in providing patients with minimally invasive treatments,” says Charles Briscoe, president & CEO, Houston Healthcare. “We are very proud of the success of our robotics program and look forward to bringing a da Vinci robot to Perry this Fall. Investment in this technology is another way Houston Healthcare is working to provide our community with exceptional care ‘at home’ in our county.”
