Each year, the men and women of our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) respond to over 24,000 requests for emergency service for Houston County and Robins Air Force Base – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This year during the Region 5 EMS Awards Banquet, Houston Healthcare EMS was selected as Region 5 Service of the Year by the State Office of EMS Region 5 Advisory Council.

The banquet is held to recognize and honor those in the Emergency Medical Profession who go above and beyond the call of duty. Over 100 EMS and Fire Personnel gathered to celebrate those honored for their dedication and heroic efforts. In attendance were several local dignitaries including Cary Martin, Houston Healthcare CEO; Mayor Randy Toms, City of Warner Robins; Keith Wages, State Office of EMS Director; Russ McGee, Central Georgia Region 5 EMS Program Director; and Chief Marvin Riggins, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.

“Being selected by the State Office is truly an honor,” states Dave Borghelli, Director of EMS and Disaster Preparedness for Houston Healthcare. “Each day, our team of trained paramedics and EMTs give their all to provide high quality care to our patients. We are here because we love what we do, and it’s nice to be recognized at this level for the passion and dedication I see every day from our team.”

Each year, judges select a service that not only does its job, but is involved on the regional and state levels and far exceeds the expectations of the community. Houston Healthcare EMS was awarded the 2014 Region 5 Service of the Year for its progressiveness and professionalism through superior clinical and operational performance. They were also recognized for their improved supervision and oversight of personnel assuring that the resources provided by the organization are utilized efficiently.

In addition to responding to emergency calls, Houston Healthcare EMS provides non-emergency transportation, stand-by services within Middle Georgia, and disaster preparedness training and aid throughout Georgia.
