Houston Healthcare Welcomes New Chief Medical Officer
Houston Healthcare Welcomes Dr. Howard Sohnen as Chief Medical Officer
Houston Healthcare is pleased to welcome Howard Sohnen, MD, FACOG, as the new Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Sohnen was a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist for 32 years, delivering more than 8,000 babies.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Sohnen served as the Residency Program Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of Women’s Services at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. He was also the Assistant Dean for Clinical Medical Education for the Mercer University School of Medicine, and served as the Department Chair and Medical Director of Programs.
Dr. Sohnen completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at Adelphi University in 1975, and attended medical school at the University of Rochester, New York. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baystate Medical Center of Tufts Medical School and received his Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1985.
According to Dr. Sohnen, providing the highest quality healthcare through effective consensus and problem solving is just one of his goals as Chief Medical Officer for Houston Healthcare.
“I have always enjoyed being a ‘problem solver’ and this position certainly gives me this opportunity,” he says. “Being a people person, I will be in a position to interact with individuals in many aspects of the health care system, and I hope to serve as an effective liaison between administration, nursing and the medical staffs. Education has always been a passion of mine and I am so excited to be able to play a role in the development of our medical education program and develop physicians who will join our community in the future. I look forward to being a member of the Houston Healthcare team for many years.”
Dr. Sohnen and his wife, Annie, have been married for almost 25 years and have two children—Rachel, 21, a senior at Georgia Southern University who anticipates becoming a Physicians’ Assistant; and Michael, 15, a sophomore in high school who loves the guitar.
