Houston Healthcare Honors Volunteers for Hours of Service Houston Medical Center Auxiliary Donates Pediatric Lifesaving Equipment |
Both Houston Medical Center and Perry Hospital have a strong group of Auxilians. Each facility has its own Gift Shop - The Gift Connection at Houston Medical Center and the Pink Bowtique at Perry Hospital. During the summer, a group of young teens to early adults, known as Volunteens, volunteer their time and are able to learn about different aspects of healthcare by working in various hospital departments. The Volunteen program is a wonderful way for these young adults to see how the numerous departments work together so the entire hospital runs more smoothly.
Houston Medical Center’s Auxiliary is made up of over 170 men and women who work in departments such as Admissions, the Emergency Department, The Women’s Center, Physical Therapy and many, many more. The 30 members of the Perry Hospital Auxiliary work in clinical and non-clinical areas, offering help wherever it is needed. Together, this group of over 200 Auxilians donated more than 285,500 hours during 2006.
The Auxilians of Houston Healthcare are dedicated to the health care of our community. Each year, the Auxilians donate money back to each hospital to purchase items that benefit patient care and enhance the overall patient experience. Over the past three years, the Houston Medical Center Auxiliary has donated $85,000 to the Houston County Volunteer Medical Clinic, helping the working uninsured citizens of Houston County.
The Chaplaincy program is also coordinated through the Volunteer Services Department. These Chaplains give their time and talents to the patients and family members of Houston Medical Center and Perry Hospital. The Chaplains are also available for all staff members and physicians.
