Holter monitoring is a screening tool similar to an electrocardiogram (EKG) that records a patient's heart activity during a 24-hour period. The monitor provides important information for people who have suspected heart disease.

And for more extensive problems, a cardiac catheterization can determine the presence or absence of coronary artery disease by using a small catheter and a special dye to view the heart.
