The Houston Heart Institute combines professional cardiovascular care with personal attention and is a comprehensive cardiac catheterization laboratory, equipped with sophisticated equipment for both diagnosis and treatment. Through this sophisticated technology, the detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases can be administered. Both non-invasive and invasive testing are offered by a staff of highly trained professionals.
Houston Heart Institute offers these tests and procedures:
- Echocardiograms provide live two-dimensional images of the heart. Using soundwaves and a sophisticated computer, this test gives the physician valuable information about overall heart functions, and it also can detect heart defects.
- Holter monitoring is a screening tool similar to an electrocardiogram (EKG) that records a patient's heart activity during a 24-hour period. The monitor provides important information for people who have suspected heart disease.
For a person whose heart has trouble maintaining a regular heartbeat, a pacemaker can be implanted by the staff of the Houston Heart Institute. And for more extensive problems, a cardiac catheterization can determine the presence or absence of coronary artery disease by using a small catheter and a special dye to view the heart.
The Heart Institute, through Health Connections, offers a full-service cardiac rehabilitation program.
