Houston Healthcare Recognizes Nurses During National Nurses Week

Houston Healthcare recently recognized the work and dedication of its more than 600 nurses during National Nurses Week, an annual event celebrated May 6-12. In appreciation of their hard work and dedication to patient care, Mayor Chuck Shaheen of Warner Robins and Mayor Pro Tem Willie King of Perry officially proclaimed the week as National Nurses Week at Houston Medical Center and Perry Hospital, respectively. Volunteer Chaplains also visited nursing staff at both facilities to say a prayer and “bless the hands” of the health care givers who devote their lives to healing.

“No matter the hour, no matter the request, our nurses are ready to care for the patients and the community we serve,” said Grady W. (Skip) Philips, III, President and Chief Executive Officer for Houston Healthcare. “Our nurses truly do make a difference every day through their confident, reassuring words and smiles that help put our patients and families at ease. Their generous spirits and willingness to give helps us build a healthier community. We are proud of all of our nurses and the dedication they give every day in caring for our patients, their families and our community.”

Each year, National Nurses Week begins on May 6th, also known as National Nurse Recognition Day, and ends on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, whom many consider the founder of modern nursing. Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses—the largest healthcare profession—are working to improve health care through their work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and research institutions, as well as in state legislatures and Congress.
