Houston Medical Center Awarded Accreditation From Joint Commission

By demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization’s national standards for health care quality and safety, Houston Medical Center has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. The Surgery Center at Houston Medical Center, in addition to Pavilion Diagnostic Center, Pavilion Med-Stop, Pavilion Rehabilitation Center, Health Connections Cardiac Rehab, Houston Heart Institute, Houston Lake Med-Stop and Houston Lake Rehab also earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. Perry Hospital’s accreditation survey is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“We seek accreditation for Houston Medical Center and our outpatient facilities because we want to demonstrate our commitment to patient safety and quality care,” says Dr. Tony Alford, CEO of Houston Healthcare. “We view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation and the validation of our compliance with the National Patient Safety Goals as another step toward achieving excellence.”

“Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization’s performance and the outcomes of care,” says Kurt Patton, executive director, Hospital Accreditation Program of the Joint Commission. “The community should be proud that Houston Medical Center and its outpatient facilities are focusing on the most challenging goal – to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels.”

Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of healthcare accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in healthcare organizations. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 hospitals and healthcare organizations in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.
