Houston Healthcare Celebrates 50 Years of “Health, Hope and Healing” During National Hospital Week
Houston Healthcare is celebrating 50 years of “Health, Hope and Healing” during National Hospital Week, which is May 9th-15th. As part of Hospital Week and in appreciation of the support received from the Houston County community over the last 50 years, Houston Healthcare employees are conducting a clothing fund drive to benefit women’s and children’s shelters throughout the community, including the Safe House in Warner Robins and Grace Village in Perry.
“National Hospital Week is a time to recognize the dedication and hard work that our more than 2,200 health care professionals put forth each and every day in caring for our patients and our community,” states Grady W. (Skip) Philips, III, President and Chief Executive Officer for Houston Healthcare. “We want our employees, along with the members of our medical staffs and our volunteers, to know just how much they are appreciated as individuals and as valued members of our healthcare organization.”
Houston Healthcare first began serving the Houston County community in 1960 as a 50-bed hospital in Warner Robins. Today, Houston Healthcare is comprised of Houston Medical Center, a 237-bed facility, and Perry Hospital, a 45-bed facility, as well as The Surgery Center, three outpatient urgent care centers, emergency medical services and rehabilitation services. During 2009, Houston Healthcare admitted 14,696 inpatients at Houston Medical Center and Perry Hospital; treated more than 77,000 patients in the emergency departments; treated 39,479 patients in their three Med-Stop locations; delivered more than 2,000 babies in The Women’s Center at Houston Medical Center; performed 10,987 surgical procedures; and saw 146,803 patients for outpatient needs.
The nation’s most traditional health care event began as National Hospital Day on May 12, 1921, and was later expanded to a week-long celebration in 1953. National Hospital Week celebrates the vital roles hospitals and health care workers play in the communities they serve.
