Houston Healthcare Hosts Annual Family Fair
Join Houston Healthcare for Family Fair 2008 on Saturday, August 2nd from 10 am until 2 pm at the Galleria Mall in Centerville. More than 50 nonprofit organizations will be represented offering health screenings, freebies and tips on keeping families healthy as well as information on exercise, proper nutrition and preventing obesity.
"Family Fair is truly an event for the entire family," says Beth Jones, director of Community Education & Services for Houston Healthcare. "Our goal is to promote health and wellness information, along with other tips for maintaining a healthy family as well as ideas on successful parenting to families and individuals while they are in the mall shopping during tax-free weekend."
This year's Family Fair will focus on exercise, proper nutrition and ways to prevent obesity for every member of the family. Experts estimate that more than 60 percent of Americans are overweight or obese. A more alarming statistic is that 18 percent of children and adolescents are now considered overweight as well; however, according to surveys, only 12 percent of parents consider their children to be overweight-a denial that can have serious health consequences for a child.
