Houston Medical Center Auxiliary Donates Pediatric Lifesaving Equipment

Members of the Houston Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary donated 11 Broselow Kits, used for advanced life support for pediatric patients, to the Houston Healthcare Emergency Medical Service (EMS).  With this donation, every Houston Healthcare ambulance will be stocked with a Broselow kit.

According to David Borghelli, Houston Healthcare EMS Director, having a Broselow kit on board in the ambulance provides staff with the equipment they need in a life-threatening situation for a pediatric patient.  "In the past, emergency department and EMS staff utilized the same techniques and equipment for advanced life support for children as for adults, only scaled down based on the size of the individual.  As we have made advancements in pediatric emergency medicine, the use of the Broselow kits provides us with the appropriate measures and life-saving techniques for infants, children and adolescents."

Volunteer Auxiliary members purchased the kits, at a cost of $20,000, with funds raised through the Auxiliary gift shop and other fundraising initiatives.  "We were pleased to be able to provide these kits for such an important and critical need as potentially saving the lives of infants and children in our community," said Melissa Turrell, Houston Healthcare Director of Volunteer Services.
