Overview, Goals & Objectives

Overview

The Houston Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program (HHC FMRP) is a community-based residency program. We are supported by Houston Healthcare both financially and in our efforts to improve the health of the communities we serve.

The HHC FMRP is designated to meet the educational and practical needs of physicians intending to enter the field of family medicine. The training program includes ambulatory, inpatient, surgical, and behavioral science components and the application of osteopathic principles and theories.

Residents learn to care for patients from prenatal care through geriatric and end-of-life care.

Goal

The goal of the HHC FMRP is to educate physicians to become competent family medicine physicians who are committed to comprehensive, compassionate, and patient-centered care in the primary care setting. To mentor physicians to serve as leaders and to work collaboratively with other community organizations to improve public health.

HHC FMRP is designed to improve proficiency in the knowledge, art of diagnosis, treatment, and practice in ambulatory and hospital settings.

The program conforms to the standards for residency training of the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Committee on Post-Doctoral Training, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), and the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
